And if you have not registered for Ascendio yet, be sure to do do before May 1 when the registration price increases. And don’t forget to mention you were referred by Snapecast.
It’s that time of year again. Snapecast has an owl on the way to wish everyone’s favorite snarky professor a happy 52nd birthday…
How will you be celebrating?
Due to a problem with blibbering–humdingers in the server (that may or may not have had anything to do with one snarky professor), snapecast.com was down for a while. We’ve called in an expert to take care of the infestation and are back. Stay tuned for further Snape–ing!
For those who did not have a chance to download our first video episode , our Snapey shenanigans can now be streamed. The episode is available via YouTube in two parts…

Introduction(0:00)
Featuring: Rachael, Meagan, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter
– Snapecast’s first video episode ever
– Rachael and Meagan film their October 2010 visit to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Entering the Park– (0:27)
Wandering Fen: Rachael and Meagan
– Rachael and Meagan explain how to get to the Harry Potter portion of the park (and wear matching t–shirts)
Although many Snape fen are currently enjoying themselvess at Aeternitas , Becca and Rachael recently spotted some Snape at a non–HP convention, Sakura Con . There was not much, but we did see…
A Snapey keychain from Gum Gum …
Some Snily fanart from Nuriko Kun …
And we think this might be a silver doe/stag thing…
Hey, we see a bit of Snape in everything. ;)
A recent video from ABC Family featured previews of Deathly Hallows Part 2, which included some haunting pictures of Snape. We took some screencaps. Be sure to click on the images for the larger size and Snape in all his glory.
So what does everyone think? Is this Snape outside the Potter’s house? Are we going to get flashbacks?
The Snapeologists at Snapecast know we have been dreadfully slow about an episode in reaction toDeathly Hallows Part I, but don’t lose hope yet. All good Snape fans know what special day tomorrow is and we promise we won’t let you down. Be on the lookout for something epic and record breaking.
While you are waiting for the Snapecasters to get their act together and put out an episode aboutDeathly Hallows, you can squee with other Snape fen in the Deathly Hallows Snape chat room .
The Professor looks a bit sad as the featured May model for a recent Harry Potter calendar…
Three questions for everyone…
Why isn’t he Mr. January?\ Am I the only one who thought the picture in the corner looked like a Barbie doll box?\ Why isn’t there an entire Snape calendar?
A number of Snape fen have asked us about posting content for the Theory of Dimishing Snape talk we gave at Infinitus last month. If you are interested in having a look at our highly detailed (and somewhat scientific) analysis, we have a link to the presentation materials here . Please let us know what you think!
The Muggles who run this podcast are still recovering from their incessant Snape–ing at Infinitus this weekend, but I thought it would be prudent to post about their adventures. I came along to the convention because Rachael told me “it was part of my contract.” I was able to hoodwink the Muggles into giving me money and I procured reservations for my own hospitality parlor and king suite.
The rest of the details for the event are posted here .
Dear Fellow Snape–fen,
You are cordially invited to the Sitting Room at Spinner’s End to pass the time sneering, Snape–ing, andhexing Gryffindorssocializing over libations, snacks, and greying underpants on Friday evening before the Night of a Thousand Wizards. It is our dearest hope that a few hours relaxing and Snape–ing will provide a much needed break between the stimulating formal programming of Friday afternoon and the excitement and mayhem of the Night of a Thousand Wizards.
Although any good Snape fan is well aware of the fact that the professor does not actually die in the last book, Warner Brothers has announced that the Snape death scene has been filmed . At least we know he’ll be in the last film! Now let’s hope that the scene is longer than 2 minutes…
In Episode 35 , some of the Snapecasters performed a dramatic reading of the “Don’t Call Me a Coward” scene from the script forHarry Potter and the Halfblood Prince. Please consider this the closest thing we will get to a corrected version of the film.
You can watch it here on the Snapecast YouTube channel .

Day five of the thirteen days of Severus leading up to the Professor’s 50th birthday. Here’s wishing everyone a Snapey New Year! (And yes, we’re hard at work on the next Episode!)
\
Day four of the thirteen days of Severus leading up to the Professor’s 50th birthday. You didn’t honestly think we’d let this momentous occasion pass without an episode…
Clips from a December 7, 2009 interview with Alan Rickman at the Hudson Society have recently surfaced. A link with the all three the videos is here . Here is a short summary of the content from a Snape fan perspective…
Video 1 (located here ): Rickman talks about the importance of story telling and discusses what happens when it is mixed with commercialism.
Video 2 (located here ): Rickman responds “I don’t know” to a question about what attracted him to his character in Harry Potter.
A big Snapey thank you to many of our listeners for providing this news tip. If you have not seen it already check out the haunting deleted scene from HBP which, in our opinion, is all about Snape.
Snape fen can only hope that there is more where this came from.
This pic of Snape and a glass of elf made wine was recently posted on an Alan Rickman Facebook page…
Now why couldn’t the rest of the movie been more along these lines?
Today the Harry Potter fandom realized a tragic loss. simons_flower ––podcaster, prolific fan fic writer, Ravenclaw, mother, and master of snark––was laid to rest in a cemetery in Washington state. As a mentor to new writers, host of the Quaffle Talk podcast , and valued friend to all who knew her, simons _flower touched more lives than can be expressed in the form of a post to this blog. Although her death was sudden and much too soon, it served as an example to illustrate the love and kinship in this fandom.
The Snapecast staff has returned from Azkatraz so be on the lookout for a recap episode shortly. In the mean time, here are a few memorable moments from the con…
Snarky was super naughty, receiving multiple arrest warrants for pooping on conference patrons, breach of employee confidentiality, tampering with mail, and other owl–related offenses…
There was also a beautiful Snape profile at the con…
Also Snape must have escaped from our hotel room because we did have a Snape–shaped hole….
It looks like we FINALLY have our first glimpse of Spinner’s End in all its shabby glory…
Some more of the wig…
And there’s a video clip of the Trio and Ginny discussing the Advanced Potions book .
It turns out that the poster with Snape and his greasy locks blowing in the wind was legit. Click on the image below for the high res version of what Mugglenet is calling the “bad guys poster” . Man, what will it take for Snape to lose this “villain” reputation?
UHP has posted 6 new HBP posters and one of them features Snape. The picture is blurry, but it has some potential.
And I do think it is slightly different than this one . In the blurred pic, the robe and hair are swishing in a semi–dramatic fashion.
Although the Professor is only featured for a few seconds in the latest HBP trailer , he certainly makes an impact. In addition to the scenes from previous trailers, the latest tease from the WB features Snape hurling hexes at Harry and darkly uttering the words “it’s over” in a way that only Snape can do. We’ve captured a few screencaps which are available below. Click on the link for the larger versions…
After initially delaying the release ofHarry Potter and the Halfblood Prince8 months, Warner Brothers is now giving us one extra day of Snape–ing and releasing the film on July 15, 2009 . Unfortunately this may cause some stress for Azkatraz convention goers, many of whom planned their travel around a midnight release on July 17, 2009. HPEF has yet to make a decision to change show times or convention schedules, but they are keeping everyone in the loop .
Most of the Snapecasters have recovered from our brief affair with Rorschach and although we don’t have a new Snapecast yet, we did some Snape–ing on Spellcast a while ago when they reviewed a Snapey fic. You can listen to the episode here or direct download here .
While we’re on the topic of Spellcast, don’t forget their Azkatraz Podcast Play Sweepstakes . So submit your Snapey story ideas ASAP. If we get some crap about Dumbledore this year, Snarky will not be happy.
Severus Snape has finally received the recognition he deserves with respect to his namesake movie. We have a very nice promo poster featuring the Professor…
Snapecast finally got a Twitter account so apparate on over there when you have a chance and say hello. Snarky also couldn’t resist making one of these…
The Japanese trailer forHarry Potter and the Halfblood Princewas recently released giving us all a tiny bit more Snape over which to squee. Here is link to the best version we can find.
It’s not much, but at this point, Snape fans will take what they can get. We also have some screencaps of the two “new” Snape scenes…
Expect some discussion on the Valentine’s Day episode of Snapecast….
Since Episode 27 we’ve been suspecting that Professor Snape somehow managed to put a curse on our iTunes feed. The Snapecast staff believes that we found an adequate counter curse and now have the problem under control. If you continue to experience problems try resubscribing or shoot us an email. Happy Snape–ing!
The latestHalfblood Princetrailer (which will be shown withTwilightopening on November 21) looks to be pretty Snapey. You catch and download various versions of the trailer here . And here are the screencaps of the Snapey bits…
I believe we have some Killing Curse action…
Dumbledore better watch out…
And the angsty burning house scene…
shivers
We finally got a big, shiny, high quality UV picture. Click on the image below to see the details…
Yes, Narcissa’s hair is a bit wonky. And I don’t see any elf made wine…
The Curse of the Halfblood Prince continues with new images of Snape released from the film!
First we have a really nice Snape wand action shot…
And then the infamous Unbreakable Vow scene…
And we have to wait HOW long to see this film?
In light of today’s announcement that the release of Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince will be pushed to July 2009, many Snape fen are wondering if the film is cursed. How are we supposed to survive the winter without our Snapey fix?
The official movie web site reflects the change and a rationalization for the move can be found here .
But there is a silver lining on this pair of graying underpants: the new release date coincides with Azkatraz , HPEF’s 2009 conference in San Fransisco.
There’s nothing quite like Snape–ing the day away with fellow fans
to get those snarky juices flowing! As you may have noticed, we
here at Snapecast are still riding high on the energy and excitement
of all the Snapey events this summer. And it appears that we’re not
alone; many Snapefans are experiencing fresh bursts of inspiration
and creativity when it comes to our favourite Greasy Git.
Snapecast would like to invite our listeners to share some of that
We are happy to report that the teaser trailer for Harry Potter and the Half–blood Prince has finally been released and is viewable via this link . Unfortunately the previews do not include an appearance by the title character, Severus Snape. Poor Sevy.
Because Warner Brothers won’t give us our Snapey fix, Snapecast will be putting out a special “Happy Birthday Harry” episode featuring audio from the live Snapecast at Portus.
**Raising a toast to Severus at the Swim Up Bar in the Hotel Lagoon **
Keep your eyes peeled for several after hours events sponsored by the The Drunkeaters on Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Taking part in Snapecast episode 28 (LIVE!!!) from 11pm
midnight on Friday at the Podcast Palooza .
Feel free to show up in your pajamas – grey nightshirts especially welcome.

Breaking Snape news:Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallowswill be two films both of which will be directed by David Yates. See the full story here .
This is mixed news for Snape fans. Although more film time almost gurantees more Snape, Mr. Yates is also the one who robbed us of our much anticipated graying underpants footage fromHarry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. This news will certainly inspire very much speculation about how much Snape will be in and how much Snape will be left out of the final films.
A new study published in the Journal of General Psychology concludes what most of us in fandom already knew:Harry Potter is addictive. Ten percent of the 4,000 Potter fans who were polled online for the study qualified as addicted based on metrics of craving scales typically employed for cigarette withdrawal.
We all know that Snape fans have it rougher than the average HP fan. If quitting Harry is like deciding so stop smoking, then Snape withdrawal is akin to kicking a heroin habit.
On February 9, 2008, Snarky was dispatched with a very important email to all folks on the Depraved Lunatic Registration list explaining keys details about SnapeFest. If you didn’t receive the email or lost it and can’t find your Remembrall, here it is…
SnapeFest Welcome Letter
Even if you are not going to SnapeFest , you might want to check out this letter because there are some ways you can help (e.
The cast and crew from Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince is currently shooting at Gloucester Cathedral in England. The Livejournal community hbpmoviespics posted a number of shots of the actors and set…but we only care about the ones featuring Snape.
Our favorite has to be Snape on his cell phone…
But there are also some great shots of a super annoyed looking professor…
He has a bit of a tummy in this one (cute!
The usually tight–lipped actor spoke a little bit about our favorite Potions Master at a recent interview at the Sundance Film Festival. Unfortunately msot of what he said was to explain why he doesn’t like to talk about Professor Snape…
**EW: Okay, I think your wranglers are giving me the signal, but I have to say, even before I got to the end of the Harry Potter books
**
AR: Before you go any further, I never, ever talk about that character.
Although the Snapecast Express has switched to a new schedule, snapecast.com will continue to operate on a regular basis. We’ll be posting important Snape–tastic happenings, any revelations about Snape interview with JK Rowling or Alan Rickman, Snapey polls, and of course updates on SnapeFest . Remember to check the SnapeNews LJ for a comprehensive update on all the Snape news in fandom.
And of course remember to keep Snape–ing!
Snapecast is happy to bring you some important announcements about SnapeFest …

ve got planned.
Registration:Remember that registration for SnapeFest officially open onJanuary 9, 2008at8 PM EST. So while you

Snarky is busy preparing for his trip beyond the veil so this is our last call for submissions of questions for Professor Snape. We will be accepting questions until 28 December 2007 so hurry up. This is your last chance to get the real story from the on who really knows.
Find details on how to submit a question here .
A short while ago, Snapecast received an unexpected and unsolicited offer from the Potions Master. He has agreed to make a brief appearance on our show and answer questions submitted by our listeners. Folks, this is your one opportunity to get the truth from the man who knows.
Because communications beyond the veil are difficult, we are asking that you submit your questions in .ogg or .mp3 format. These can all be recorded using Audacity .
Snarky the Owl has delivered some vague, but very confidential information about what will be happening at SnapeFest . For the details see here . Also don’t forget to share your opinion by logging onto the SnapeFest Messageboard .
One reason we all love Snape is that the guy has some fabulous one liners. We would like to celebrate Snape’s wit, snarky, and sharp tongue in our last regularly scheduled episode of Snapecast by featuring a medley of quotes from the Potions Master from bothcanon and fanonsources.
If you have a favorite Snape quote please send us an owl with the following information…
**Favorite Snape Quote:**Preferably recorded using Audacity in .

t worry because there are plenty of other depraved lunatics out there who also can
Snapecast is going to do a roundtable for Episode 25 (December 1) where we chat about the status of all Snape ships post Deathly Hallows. The idea is basically that we got this canon ship from JKR so what is the state of all the now non–cannon (or just not explicitly canon) Snape ships. We would like to get folks who have knowledge and opinions on at least one of the following…
Witches, wizards, fangirls, fanboys, and friends of Snape:
Snapecast is pleased to announce the official opening of the Snapecast Headmaster Portrait Gallery. Tickets are free and the exhibit can be accessed with the following Portkey…
The gallery will be continuously accepting new submissions even after the opening. Therefore if you have a portrait of Headmaster!Snape that you would like to see displayed please send it to severus@snapecast.com.
We had to share this wonderful pic submitted by Jess which shows her brandishing a written version of the “I am a Snape Fan” speech from Episode 19 during a midnight release party.

Despite Prophecy being an inspiration for our upcoming Canadian episode, Rose was the only Snapeologist who was able to attend the conference which was held in Toronto August 2–5. Snarky was close by her side and the two of them got some fantastic pictures…

There were some incredible Snape cosplayers at Prophecy…

Here is the final installment in our series of “snapeshots” from Sectus. These are a combination of pictures from the Sectus book release party and the Not The Yule Ball. There is some serious cosplaying going on here amongst the Snapecasters…Hagrid, Grawp, and Latex!Snape of course.
Eager fans wait for midnight…
Rachael hangs out with Hagrid and Grawp…
At the Not The Yule Ball, Steve Vander Ark from the HP Lexicon is overpowered by Latex!
Before the release of Epsiode 21, here are some more pictures from the Snapecasters at Sectus. This series depicts our journey to the Waterstone’s at Leicester Square in London where Potter fans from all over the world were queuing for days in anticipation ofHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. These folks were desperately in need of shampoo so Snapecast to the rescue!
Here are some crazy shots of the massive line…
The Snapecast staff is just starting to settle down from the craziness that wasHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. We apologize for taking so long to post pictures from our adventures in London for the book release, but we figure they are better late than never. The pics will be coming in several batches. First up is our meetup at Potion ……
The venue was just too perfect
The weather was dreadful, but Snape fans are determined

Thanks to everyone who nominated us and who has voted for us so far. Maybe winning this will make up for Snape losing that Order of Merlin in Book 3…or maybe not.

Hello Muggles and other assorted humans and human–type things, it is I, Snarky the Owl. Thanks for picking out that name for me, by the way. One fangirl too many decides that “Snarky” is an appropriate name for an owl of my stature, and suddenly the dunderheads who keep me in peanut butter and pretzels start using it to order me around. Brilliant. Anyway, I’ve commandeered one of the dunderheads’ computers so I can bring something of utmost importance to your attention.

Having a costume that was slightly too big didn’t stop Rachael from dressing up as Snape for Halloween. The Snape–ish frock she purchased was just stretchy enough to accomodate a belly, thus enabling Rachael to cosplay a version of Severus that is completely fandom–created.

And the saga continues…
Severus Snape had just settled down for an evening of pleasure reading, his well–worn copy ofHow to Betray Friends and Humiliate Peopleby D.V.S. Naipaul on his lap when a sudden noise interrupted the quiet.‘Hullooo, Professor Snape!‘Snape nearly spilled his glass of firewhiskey, Wormtail having polished off the last of the wine during another one of his pathetic late night binges.
‘Nigel,’ he said irritably to the head protruding from the grate in the fireplace, ‘it’s late.

“Pathetic,” Snape scoffed as he peered down his long nose at the parchment that had just arrived by owl.
Scribbled across it were a few terse lines from a squib acquaintence of his who was unusually tapped into Muggle exploits on something called the Interweb.
Dear Prof. Snape,
Followed up on wireless program, Snapecast on Podcast Alley. That’s one of those places Muggles like to get their wireless shows.
It looks like Snapecast is not very popular.

The next segment we’d like to highlight is a little something calledLove Potion Number 9 3/4.
Snape and fanfiction takes many forms. But nothing seems to capture the imagination of the fandom more than Snape paired up with someone else in a romantic or erotic entanglement. This segment looks at Snape as he
s shipped in various forms, and how he
s portrayed as a romantic/sex partner.
7 Days until Snapecast Episode 1"I was walking home from work the other day when I passed a man making a small child cry. I immediately thought of Snape and all the students he’s brought to tears over the years and I began to wonder: Are there any benefits to using humiliation as a form of classroom management
"
Let’s get introspective for a while. The next segment we’d like to highlight,This Slytherin Lifeissnapecast’s answer to This American Life , and takes the form of brief first–person testimonials, reflective essays, or journalistic non–fiction.
8 days until Snapecast Episode #1…
To make our countdown more interesting, the Snapecast staff has decided to post a little blurb about each of the segments you have to look forward to in upcoming episodes of Snapecast. We thought we’d start out with the most analytical of the bunch…Snarky Chapters.
Snarky Chapters is roundtable discussion focused on the snarkiest chapters in the Harry Potter series, in other words, the ones that feature Severus Snape.
I’ve always been a subject of ridicule. As a student, I was the focus of a never–ending succession of taunts and derogatory comments. As a teacher instructing the imbecilic spawn of my old tormentors, I received the same treatment. The only difference being that my students made sure to jeer and start their vulgar rumors where I might never catch them at it.
So it came as no surprise to me when, in the midst of my usual meal at a local pub near my summer quarters, I caught the unmistakable sound of feminine giggling and fervent whispering wafting in my direction from the booth just behind me.
You may be skeptical that anyone could fill a whole podcast with solely Snape–related material, but rest assured we’ve come up with plenty. Here’s an overview of the various segments you can expect to hear:
Snarky Chapters
Roundtable discussion of Snape–centric chapters across the series in which our panelists grapple with the development of Snape’s character, his relationship to Harry, and his role in the series.

Need we say more?
Not Another Bloody Potter Podcast!
50 points from Gryffindor for whining.
This is most certainly NOT just another bloody Potter Podcast. Snapecast is the only Harry Potter Podcast solely focused around the character of Professor Severus Snape, arguably the most interesting and most polarizing character of the series. Every month, we’ll delve into his inner psyche, analyze his motivations, interview his biggest fans and detractors, read his post, and make fun of his hygiene.
