Infinitus Report from Snarky

The Muggles who run this podcast are still recovering from their incessant Snape-ing at Infinitus this weekend, but I thought it would be prudent to post about their adventures. I came along to the convention because Rachael told me “it was part of my contract.” I was able to hoodwink the Muggles into giving me money and I procured reservations for my own hospitality parlor and king suite.

The rest of the details for the event are posted here. I plan to bring a lawsuit for intentional infliction of emotional distress to an owl and am gathering evidence via this Flickr group. Please post any pics from the meetup there.

Snape’s Death Filmed

Although any good Snape fan is well aware of the fact that the professor does not actually die in the last book, Warner Brothers has announced that the Snape death scene has been filmed. At least we know he’ll be in the last film! Now let’s hope that the scene is longer than 2 minutes…

HBP: The Corrected Version

Rickman Interview With Snape Content

Clips from a December 7, 2009 interview with Alan Rickman at the Hudson Society have recently surfaced. A link with the all three the videos is here. Here is a short summary of the content from a Snape fan perspective…

Video 1 (located here): Rickman talks about the importance of story telling and discusses what happens when it is mixed with commercialism.

Video 2 (located here): Rickman responds “I don’t know” to a question about what attracted him to his character in Harry Potter. His teaser for the upcoming Harry Potter film: “It’s the last one.” Not exactly true since Deathly Hollows will be a two parter. There is a bit of discussion about the different directors in the series as well.

Video 3 (located here): Rickman mentions a few scenes with just Ralph Fiennes. Will we see Snape and Voldemort strolling around the Malfoy Mansion together with the white peacocks? There is also mention of a scene with 300 kids. Headmaster Snape?

This interview definitely offers fodder about how much Snape there will be in Deathly Hollows. Will we even get a death scene?

Remembering simons_flower

Today the Harry Potter fandom realized a tragic loss. simons_flower–podcaster, prolific fan fic writer, Ravenclaw, mother, and master of snark–was laid to rest in a cemetery in Washington state. As a mentor to new writers, host of the Quaffle Talk podcast, and valued friend to all who knew her, simons _flower touched more lives than can be expressed in the form of a post to this blog. Although her death was sudden and much too soon, it served as an example to illustrate the love and kinship in this fandom. Sometimes pictures are more effective than words in expressing emotions and that may be the case here…

Although the Professor is only featured for a few seconds in the latest HBP trailer, he certainly makes an impact. In addition to the scenes from previous trailers, the latest tease from the WB features Snape hurling hexes at Harry and darkly uttering the words “it’s over” in a way that only Snape can do. We’ve captured a few screencaps which are available below. Click on the link for the larger versions…

Look at that technique. Snape definitely has some hardcore dueling experience.

Snape-ing one day early isn’t necessarilly a good thing

After initially delaying the release of Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince 8 months, Warner Brothers is now giving us one extra day of Snape-ing and releasing the film on July 15, 2009. Unfortunately this may cause some stress for Azkatraz convention goers, many of whom planned their travel around a midnight release on July 17, 2009. HPEF has yet to make a decision to change show times or convention schedules, but they are keeping everyone in the loop.

Snape has expressed extreme displeasure with this situation as it will inevitably inflict an extra day of lunacy upon him. First Warner Brothers ruined his summer vacation plans and now the increase in fangirling that comes with every movie (especially this one) will start one day early. Looks like it’s time to break of the fire whiskey.

Snape fans will most certainly be financially impacted by this announcement as those of us who have already bought tickets to the July 17 midnight showing will have to purchase tickets for the new earlier release date. How could we imagine seeing Harry Potter and Severus Snape two days later than everyone else?

In light of today’s announcement that the release of Harry Potter and the Halfblood Prince will be pushed to July 2009, many Snape fen are wondering if the film is cursed. How are we supposed to survive the winter without our Snapey fix?

The official movie web site reflects the change and a rationalization for the move can be found here.

But there is a silver lining on this pair of graying underpants: the new release date coincides with Azkatraz, HPEF’s 2009 conference in San Fransisco. The organizers have arranged tickets at a nearby IMAX for the first midnight showing. For more information check out the announcement here or join the Azkatraz LJ community.
